Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of FinSight ("the Service", "we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using FinSight, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

FinSight is currently in private beta: new accounts are invite-only while we finish onboarding banks in production through Plaid. If you signed up through our waitlist or received a direct invitation, these Terms apply to you from the moment your account is created, whether or not the Service is later opened to the public.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a binding contract to use FinSight. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements. FinSight is currently available to residents of the United States only.

2. Description of the Service

FinSight connects to your bank and credit accounts through Plaid, on a read-only basis, and uses that data to power the following features:

  • Accounts: automatic syncing of balances and transactions from connected banks and credit cards, plus manually-added accounts (cash, loans, anything Plaid doesn't cover)
  • Budgets: monthly category spending limits with rollover and threshold alerts
  • Goals: savings targets you create and track progress toward, optionally linked to a real account balance
  • Debt payoff: a payoff planner for credit cards and loans you add or import from a connected account
  • Subscription tracking: automatic detection of recurring charges (e.g. streaming services, memberships) from your transaction history
  • Reports: net worth history, cash flow, and spending-by-category views built from your synced data
  • AI insights: a chat assistant, a Financial Health Score, and (on paid plans) a daily AI briefing and monthly written review — all generated by a large language model (Anthropic Claude) reasoning over your account data

3. Not Financial, Legal, or Tax Advice

FinSight — including the AI chat assistant, Financial Health Score, AI briefing, and monthly review — is for informational purposes only and does not constitute financial, investment, legal, or tax advice. These features are generated by a language model (Anthropic Claude) reasoning over your transaction history, budgets, and goals, combined with general financial knowledge. Outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, based on stale or incorrectly categorized transaction data, or simply not applicable to your situation.

You are responsible for reviewing any AI-generated insight before acting on it. Do not make significant financial decisions — including but not limited to investments, loans, insurance, retirement planning, debt payoff strategy, or tax decisions — based solely on information FinSight provides. Always consult a qualified financial professional for advice tailored to your circumstances.

4. Account Registration

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account. We are not liable for losses resulting from unauthorized use of your account that occurred before you notified us.

You may not share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of third parties without their explicit consent.

5. Bank Account Connections (Plaid)

FinSight uses Plaid Technologies, Inc. ("Plaid") to connect your bank accounts. By connecting a bank account, you also agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy. FinSight accesses your banking data in read-only mode and does not initiate transfers, payments, or any other transactions on your behalf.

We are not responsible for: (a) errors or delays in data returned by Plaid or your financial institution; (b) the accuracy of account balances or transaction records provided by your bank; or (c) the availability of Plaid's services.

6. Subscription and Payments

Every account starts on the Free plan, which runs for two months from signup before its limits (connected accounts, history, budgets, and goals) apply going forward. Plus and Pro are paid plans, billed on a recurring monthly basis via Stripe, that raise or remove those limits and unlock the AI features described in Section 2. By subscribing to Plus or Pro, you authorize FinSight to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. Stripe processes and stores your payment details directly — FinSight never receives or stores your card number.

  • Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to paid features until that date.
  • Refunds: We do not offer refunds for partial subscription periods. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us within 30 days.
  • Price changes: We may change subscription pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Continued use after the new price takes effect constitutes acceptance.

7. Referral Program

Every account has a unique referral link. When someone you refer creates an account using your link and becomes a paying Plus or Pro subscriber, you earn one free month, credited toward your own subscription.

  • When credit is earned: the referred user must start and maintain a paid Plus or Pro subscription — a Free-plan signup, on its own, does not earn a reward.
  • Banked credit: if you don't have an active paid subscription when a referral converts, the free month is banked and automatically applied the next time you subscribe or renew.
  • No clawback: once a referral has converted and the credit applied, it is not reversed if the referred user later cancels or is refunded.
  • Self-referrals and fraud: referring yourself, an alternate account you control, or otherwise gaming the program does not earn a reward. We may deny or reverse credit obtained through fraudulent, abusive, or duplicate signups.
  • No cash value: referral credit is not redeemable for cash, is non-transferable, and may only be applied to a FinSight subscription.

We may modify, suspend, or end the referral program, or adjust the reward amount, at any time. Changes do not affect credit already earned.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable regulation
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the Service except via our official API
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits, authentication, or other security controls
  • Upload or transmit malicious code, viruses, or any software intended to disrupt the Service
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules without prior notice.

9. Intellectual Property

The FinSight name, logo, source code, design, and all content created by us are protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.

You retain ownership of the data associated with your account — your synced transactions, and the budgets, goals, debts, and notes you create. By using FinSight, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display that data for the sole purpose of providing the Service to you.

10. Data and Privacy

Your use of FinSight is subject to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please read the Privacy Policy carefully to understand how we collect, use, and protect your information.

11. Disclaimers of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY OF FINANCIAL DATA.

We do not warrant that: (a) the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free; (b) account balances or transaction data synced from Plaid or your financial institution will be accurate or complete; (c) the AI chat assistant, Financial Health Score, briefings, or monthly reviews will be correct; or (d) the Service will meet your specific requirements.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FINSIGHT AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) $50.

13. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless FinSight and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

14. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violations of these Terms, at our sole discretion.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 3, 9, 11, 12, 13, and 15 survive termination.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which FinSight operates, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction in that state.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
