Common questions
How FinSight connects to your bank
FinSight uses Plaid, the same connection layer trusted by thousands of finance apps, to link your bank. You never type your bank credentials into FinSight — you log in directly through Plaid's secure interface, and Plaid hands us back a read-only, encrypted token, never your username or password. We can see balances and transaction history; we can never move money, make payments, or change anything at your bank.
Why did my bank connection fail?
Usually one of three things: your bank needs you to re-verify (a password change, new 2FA device, or security review), or your bank's own systems are temporarily down. Go to Dashboard → Accounts — the banner on the affected account names the specific reason and whether reconnecting will fix it. Outages on your bank's side aren't something you need to fix; we keep retrying automatically until they clear.
My bank connection stopped syncing
Banks occasionally require you to re-authenticate. Go to Dashboard → Accounts, find the affected institution, and click Reconnect. If the problem persists after reconnecting, email us with the bank name and we'll look into it.
Disconnect a bank account
Go to Settings → Connected Bank Accounts and click Disconnect next to the institution you want to remove. This stops future syncing and archives its accounts, but keeps every transaction you've already synced — nothing is deleted. You can reconnect the same bank at any time from the Accounts page.
Transactions are missing or delayed
New transactions typically appear within a few hours — banks post them to Plaid on their own schedule, and pending transactions can take 1–3 business days to settle. You can trigger a manual sync from the Accounts page. Still missing after a day? Email us the account name and approximate transaction date.
A transaction has the wrong category or merchant name
Categories are assigned automatically from your bank's data and aren't always right. You can fix any transaction yourself from the Transactions page. If you're seeing a pattern of miscategorized transactions (not just one-off), email us an example and we'll take a look.
How subscriptions and billing work
FinSight has three plans — Free, Plus ($9.99/mo), and Pro ($19.99/mo). Manage everything from Settings → Manage Subscription, which opens Stripe's secure billing portal: change plans, update your card, or download past invoices. Upgrades take effect immediately; plan changes take effect at the end of your current billing period.
How to cancel Plus or Pro
Go to Settings → Manage Subscription to open the Stripe billing portal, then cancel from there. You keep paid features until the end of the period you already paid for, then you're automatically moved to Free — nothing is deleted, you just lose access to paid-only features until you resubscribe. We'll ask one quick, optional question about why, just to help us improve.
Export my transaction data
Go to Settings → Danger Zone → Export My Data to download every transaction as a CSV file. It's available on every plan and doesn't affect your account — a good habit before making any big changes, including deleting your account.
Delete my account and data
Go to Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account. This permanently disconnects all banks, deletes all your financial data, and removes your login. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
Is my bank data safe?
FinSight has read-only access — we can never move money. Bank credentials are entered directly with Plaid and never touch our servers. Connection tokens are encrypted with AES-256 at rest. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
What FinSight AI can and cannot do
The AI assistant (Plus and Pro) answers using your real connected data — balances, transactions, budgets, goals, and projections — so it can explain your spending, estimate payoff timelines, flag budget risk, and answer general financial questions grounded in your numbers. It's not a licensed financial, investment, tax, or legal advisor: it will never recommend a specific stock or investment product, give definitive tax or legal conclusions, or promise a projection as guaranteed — for big decisions it walks through the numbers but tells you to confirm with a qualified professional. It only knows what's in your connected accounts; it won't guess about money it can't see, and it will say so if you ask about something outside that data.
